John Phillip Sutton, age 66 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020. He was born August 16, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Keenan Claire Sutton; father, Richard Browning Sutton; and brother, Richard Browning Sutton II.
John is survived by his mother, Edwina Watt Sutton; daughter, Melinda (Esteban) Palacio; son, Jeremiah Sutton; step-children, Despina Kourt, Nikolas Kourt; grandchildren, Ethan and Sophia; sisters, Nita (Jerry) Walker, Jan Pancheri (Ed Murphy); brother, Paul (Julie) Sutton; nieces and nephews, Kristen (Nathan) Blatchley, Nathan (Mary) Walker, Brent Uckotter, Katie (Jason) Bittinger, Ayrie Uckotter, Joe Pancheri, Josiah Sutton and Levi Sutton; as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews and many friends.
John is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and served during the Vietnam Era. He also spent many years working in construction. His motto was always, "Work Smarter, Not Harder." John enjoyed a good fire, swimming in Jan's pool, the neighborhood cats, going to the flea markets and he had quite the marble collection. He also loved gardening and was growing beautiful gladiolas, irises, zinnias and four o'clocks.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Rock Springs Baptist Church (2155 Rock Springs Road, Charlotte, TN 37036). Funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery with military honors.
A Celebration of Life will also be held in Summer 2021.
