John (Jack) Stauffer

Born June 7, 1936 in Lansing, Michigan to John and Helen Stauffer, passed away September 10, 2012. John met and married the love of his life, Vivian, while stationed at Fort Drum in 1955. They moved back to Lansing in 1957 where they raised six children.
John and Vivian Stauffer were devoted to each other and for many years enjoyed bowling, playing cards and dancing. They were very involved with their neighborhood and the Lansing community at large. John served as president of Eastern Neighbors. In 2010 he was awarded the Bea Christy award for his volunteerism. John's most notable way of giving back was through providing meals for special neighborhood and city events. John and Vivian were known for preparing all-night buffets for Lansing police officers on duty during Christmas and New Year's Eve. Their time together in this life ended with Vivian's passing in January 2008. In 2010 John relocated to Beavercreek, Ohio. With this move he was able to be near his son Rodger (Barbara) Stauffer, their eight children and grandchildren. John continued to serve others at his residence at Grand Court Dayton where his presence reinvigorated the community.
John is preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian Stauffer and son Michael Stauffer. He is survived by his sister Patricia Zangmeister and brother Richard (Denora) Stauffer, five children; Saundra Deeghan; John (Norma) Stauffer; Rodger (Barbara) Stauffer; Joellen Arnold and Roy (Martha) Stauffer; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 7th at noon at the Chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5401 N. Michigan Rd., Dimondale, MI. Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Lansing Neighborhood Council, 5815 Wise Rd., Rm F208, Lansing, MI 48911.
