John Slivinski

September 5, 1946 — April 6, 2013

John E. Slivinski, age 66 of Huber Heights, passed away April 6, 2013. He was born September 5, 1946 in Dayton to the late Casmir and Mary Slivinski. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers: Peter Slivinski and Ralph Slivinski; and sisters: Frances Bradley and Joann Cramer.

John is survived by his wife of nearly 23 years, Susan Slivinski; children: Michael (Sarah) Slivinski, Matthew Slivinski, Lisa (Dana McElroy) Wisecup and Sara Wisecup; 5 grandchildren: Alex Cannon, Brandon Fine, Brooke Fine, Nathen Slivinski and Sadira Slivinski; brothers: Steve (Lori) Slivinski and Willard (Tammy) Slivinski; sisters: Barbara (Tom) Mansperger and Mary (John Paul) Blevins; numerous nieces and nephews, including: Mary Frances Slivinski, Kim Bradley and Eugene Bradley; and many other family members and friends.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps., Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal and the M-14 Rifle Marksman Medal. John was a past commander of the V.F.W Post 3283 Huber Heights, was a member of the Military Order of the Cooties, Pup Tent 83, American Legion Post 200, 40 & 8 Veteran's Club and Huber Heights Jaycees. He graduated from the University of Dayton, where he earned his Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude. John retired from WPAFB as a Lead Avionics Engineer, where he worked on many special programs, including: Predator Drone, Stealth Fighter F-117, Fire Control/Weapon Delivery Group, F-115, Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile (AMRAAM), Joint Direct Attack Missile (JDAM), Heat Seeking Missile (AIM-9X), F-22, and the A-10. John was an avid gardener, enjoyed to golf, played softball for many years and cared about animals. John loved to cook, grill out, go on casino junkets and play tickets. John enjoyed visiting with his friends daily at the various veteran's clubs.
