John R. Metzler

John R. Metzler, age 66, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at his home. He was born January 12, 1949 in Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Metzler.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an air craft mechanic during Vietnam War. He was a member of and enjoyed playing cards at Amvets Post 99, VFW Post 6560 and Cactus John's in Huber Heights. John umpired for over 40 years throughout Ohio.
John is survived by his daughter, Amy Marie (Marty) Hicks; sister, Donna Gregg; granddaughter, Abigail Marie Hicks; niece, Stephanie Ann (Todd) Howard; great-niece, Jessie Ann Howard and great-nephew, Zach Howard. He is also survived by numerous family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. John's family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton for their care and compassion.
