John Nelson Zea
Age 81, of Dayton, Ohio, born on Oct. 10, 1926, in Piqua, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton due to respiratory failure.
John attended and played basketball for Lena-Conover HS where he graduated in 1944. He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, both stateside and in Korea. He then worked in the Aero-Products Division of General Motors, while obtaining his Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952 from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. John met the love of his life, Virginia Thatcher, on a blind date at Hobart Arena in 1953 and married her in 1954. John and his brother-in-law Max Nicely assumed the ownership of Dayton Hard Chrome Company from great uncle Charles Leslie Herdman in 1960, retiring in 1989. In retirement John most enjoyed his beloved family and service to Grace United Methodist Church.
His parents Della and George "Pete", brothers Wendell and George Zea, and sister Elizabeth (Libby) Besenfelder preceded John in death. He is survived by his wife: Virginia, daughters: Dr. Bonnie (Dr. Edward) Dean of Billings, MT, Belinda (Christopher) Vallo of Dayton, Betty (Douglas) Bosworth of Cincinnati, sisters: Alice McMaken of Covington and Ruth Ann Freeman of Fletcher, grandchildren: Ryan and Lauren Vallo; Michael, Gavin and Austin Dean; and Douglas, Peter, and Johnathon Bosworth as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
John's family will receive friends at a celebration memorial service at Grace United Methodist Church, 1001 Harvard Boulevard, on Saturday (TOMORROW), August 30 at 1:00 PM. The family will have a private funeral service followed by burial at Memorial Park.
