John K. Knisley, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on October 25, 2024 in Troy, Ohio. He was born on February 16, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, and he touched the lives of many throughout his 72 years.
John dedicated over 30 years of his life to his career as a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, demonstrating his exceptional skills to the craft. His professional journey was marked by his involvement with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, where he contributed to the advancement of his field with both knowledge and passion.
An alumnus of Tecumseh High School's class of 1970, John furthered his education by earning an Associates degree in Industrial Engineering from Sinclair College and another Associates degree in Gunsmithing from Yavapai Community College in Prescott, AZ. This pursuit of knowledge reflected his inquisitive nature and desire for personal growth.
Honorably, John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, including a deployment overseas to Germany. His time in the military forged in him a sense of integrity and service that became part of his character.
John was known not only for his career achievements but also for his vibrant personality. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was often the one to lighten the mood with his jokes. He was a caring and loving individual, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer support to those around him. As a devoted husband to Virginia "Ginny" Knisley, he enjoyed a marriage that lasted 47 wonderful years. Together, they navigated life’s challenges and created many cherished memories.
As a proud father, he took great joy in his sons, Kyle and Tybalt "Ty" Knisley. His love for family extended to his siblings, including sisters, Janet Hufford, Christine Evers, and Patricia Bunch, as well as brothers, Clifford Knisley and Robert Knisley. John also embraced his role as an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, providing them with guidance and support throughout their lives.
John had a wealth of interests and hobbies that showcased his diverse passions. Dungeons and Dragons was a beloved pastime with friends and family-as the creative one, John was always the Dungeon Master. He enjoyed woodworking, gunsmithing, coin collecting, and was a dedicated collector of John Deere Memorabilia. Adventurous at heart, he found pleasure in hiking and was a Jeep enthusiast. An accomplished beekeeper and survivalist, John’s love for nature was evident in his everyday pursuits. His leadership skills were highlighted through his involvement as an Eagle Scout and Boy Scout Leader, as well as holding positions within the Order of the Arrow and Campfire, enriching the lives of many youth.
He will be remembered fondly for his creativity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to family. He remains dearly missed by his wife, sons, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Garnet Knisley, and his son, Tybalt "Ty" Knisley, who left behind loving memories cherished by all who knew them.
A visitation will be held on November 4, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. This will be followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM, honoring John's life and legacy. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the remarkable life of a man who made a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
