John M. Johnson Jr.

John M. Johnson Jr. age 67, of Dayton, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at his residence. He was born on February 15, 1956 in Dayton, OH to John and Lee Helen Johnson.
John graduated from Colonel White High School in 1973 and the University of Dayton in 1983 with a Bachelors in Public Administration. He was a United States Army Veteran and retired from the State of Ohio as a Social Program Developer. John was a faithful member of Pugh's Temple Apostolic Faith Church in Dayton, where he served as a Deacon and the Minister of Music.
John was a talented and self-taught musician, having played over 9 instruments over a 60-year span. He played in several bands, including The Brothers Rock, 4 Peace Band, Millions of Civilians, Defiance, ThunderRock, Sonic Mojo and many more.
John enjoyed watching his grand kids play in the yard, cooking ribs for his friends and family and stringing on his guitar. He could take a word mid conversation and stretch it into a song. He always told everyone how proud he was of his sons, enjoyed hanging with his friends and family during bon fires and family gatherings. He also loved sharing stories from his childhood, most of them starting with his mom. Most of all, he loved his ML and would spare no expense to protect her above anything else.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Major and Pinklee Pugh and John and Laura Johnson; his two sisters, Patricia Beavers and Parkie Hunt.
John is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marcia Johnson; his children, John M. Johnson III, Clifford F. (Nicole) Johnson, Alexander C. (Amber) Johnson and Ryan L.J. (Danielle) Johnson; his grandchildren, Camry, John IV, Leah, Royal, Maximillian, Major, Aryeh, Maverick, Lee, Alayah and Ailyn; his siblings, James R. (Angela) Johnson and Vivian K. Moody, his uncle, Jerry (Betty) Pugh, and mother-in-love Charlene Melia. He is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm with services immediately following, all at Mt. Zion AOH Church of God. John will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pugh's Temple Apostolic Faith Church, 1568 West Fifth Dayton, OH 45402.
