John Norman Hamilton, Sr. (79), of Kettering, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014. He was born June 8, 1935 in St. Paris, OH, the seventh child of eight children of Mills Monroe and Ruth Elizabeth (Turner) Hamilton. A graduate of St. Paris High School, he served as a Medic in the United States Navy and was a Naval Reservist until 1965. He was a retiree of Delco Products of Kettering and had been a member of The Church of the Nazarene for most of his life having served in several lay capacities over the years such as Usher, Choir member, Soloist, Trustee, and Steward just to name a few. Shortly after his discharge from the Navy, he met his wife Blanche in Philadelphia at the Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene where they were married in 1959. He loved music and loved to sing. He also had a deep appreciation for the beauty of God's creation and when younger he enjoyed traveling and camping. Most of all, he loved to talk, tell stories & jokes, and visit with friends, family and even first time acquaintances. He never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Blanche Olive (Mendenhall) Hamilton, his children and their spouses, John (Laura) Hamilton, Brian (Kerri) Hamilton, Brenda (David) Tucker, and brothers, Miles M. Hamilton & Carl R. Hamilton and sister Hazel I. Gerrish, as well as four grandchildren, Robert Brian Hamilton, Jessica Ann Hamilton, Jared David Tucker, Angela Renee Tucker, and four great-grandchildren, Damien Hamilton, twins: Mary Jane & Zoe Delilah Hamilton, and Amy Marie Hamilton, and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is predeceased by both parents and siblings: Charlotte Annabelle (Alvin) Osgood (2012), Edgar Allen (Virginia) Hamilton (1999), Wanda Pauline (Marcellus) Malmsbury (2003), and Paul Emerson Hamilton (1976).
A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Miamisburg Church of the Nazarene, 1216 Richard St., Miamisburg, Ohio 45342. The Reverend Robert Herdman officiating.
