John Gard

January 8, 1945 — April 8, 2014

John Gard "Spook", age 69 of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born January 8, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio the son of Harold and Helen Gard. He was employed at the City of Dayton, member of NRA, and a Amateur Ham Radio Operator (KC8AVU). He proudly served in combat in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Thomas E. Bates; and a special friend, Norman Ellerthorpe.

John is survived by his Son, Paul (Gretchen) Gard; Sister, Darlene Bates; Brother, Bill (Tammy) Katzenbach; two Grandchildren, Courtny Vaughn and Brandon Gard; and a Great Grandchild, Bentley Spencer. He is also survived by numerous family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 10:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424). Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial will be Thursday at 12:00 pm at Dayton National Cemetery.
