John Estel Freels, age 95 of New Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2017. He was born April 14, 1921 in Wartburg, TN to the late William C. and Melissa (Miller) Freels. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by son, Estel "Geno" Freels and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Pauline Freels; children, Randy (Wanda Pence) Freels, Brenda (Joe) Phillips, Doug Freels and William (Charity) Freels; grandchildren, Jamie Freels, Orlando Phillips, John Freels, Emelia Freels, Debbie, Nikki and Jennifer; 10 great grandchildren; 4 sisters and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
John proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He earned and received 3 Bronze Stars for his heroic actions during combat. John was at Omaha Beach, 1st day Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His passion was hunting, fishing and most importantly spending time with his family.
Family will receive friends from 9-10:30 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM with Pastor Dean Thompson officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City, OH.
