John F. Thompson, a dedicated mason and beloved family man, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on January 13, 1947, John lived a life rich in both accomplishments and the love of those around him.
A proud graduate of Northridge High School, Class of 1965, John went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years; he was an active member and Commander at the American Legion, Post 746, embodying the values of dedication and loyalty that he carried throughout his life.
John’s career as a mason was marked by a profound passion for his work. He took great pride in recounting the many buildings he helped construct, a testament to his skill and dedication to his craft. His enthusiasm for his profession was matched only by his love for sports, particularly baseball, which he enjoyed watching alongside his family and friends. John was not just a fan; he was a dedicated alumnus, consistently supporting his local sports teams and actively engaging in the community he cherished.
Beyond his professional and community contributions, John was known for his vibrant personality. He was the life of the party, always ready to engage in lively discussions, whether about sports, politics, or just good-natured banter with friends. His loyalty was unwavering; if he said he would be there, he was, a quality that endeared him to many.
John’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was a devoted grandfather, cherishing every moment with his grandchildren—Noah (Jasmine), Wyatt (Kierstyn), Tony, Faye, and Zoey—and he looked forward to creating cherished memories with his great-granddaughter, Rylee. The bond he shared with his children, Jeffrey Thompson, Jonathan Thompson (Amber), and Amanda Thompson (James), as well as with their mother and his best friend, Sally Borba (Brad), was a vital part of his life.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, John is survived by his sister, Carol Smith; his brother, Ernie Thompson; his sister, Joyce Thompson; and a host of great friends and family who will deeply miss his presence.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Wanda Thompson, and his sister, Sherry Thompson, who will be there to welcome him into eternal rest.
