John F. Berning, Sr. of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away on November 22, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on January 13, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to H. Reed and Virginia Berning.
He is survived by former spouse, Sandra Berning; daughter, Amita Lee Pujara; son, John F. Berning, Jr; grandchildren, Ajay and Annika Pujara of Beavercreek; brother, Charles (Linda) of Toledo; nieces, Christina Hernandez and Bethany Chapman; numerous grandnieces and nephews; and many brothers and sisters in the LDS community.
John graduated from St Francis De Sales High School in Toledo, Ohio and Ohio University, then earned his Master's and Doctoral Degrees from The Ohio State University. He is a retired elementary school teacher and principal. John also taught courses at the university level. He was a member of Northern Light Lodge No. 40, F&AM in Maumee, Ohio, The Valley of Dayton 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, Xenia Ward.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church or to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service officiated by Bishop Chad Hale will be held at noon on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the LDS Church, 3072 Shakertown Rd. Beavercreek 45434.
