John R. Dunham, age 96 of Dayton, reunited with his wife of 65 years, Kate on January 16, 2017. He was born January 22, 1920 in Arlington, GA to the late Willie and Mary (Hazley) Dunham. In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by infant son, Christopher B. Dunham; 1 sister and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his 4 children, Kenneth, Cheryl, Pamela Dunham and Beverly Moreland; grandchildren, Diana, Quince, Jameka, Ryhan (Bryant), Shaun and Lauren; great grandchildren, Jaria, Nakia, Dareon, Isaiah, Jhamesia, Brooklyn, Bryant Jr. and Kobe; sister, Ella Williams of Phenix City, AL; special nephew, Cliff Dunham of Georgia; Denzel Holder and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII having earned the American Defense Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Eamet Service Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He enjoyed traveling around world while enlisted having been to Southern France, Rome and Germany.
John was a handy man for all his family and friends. Tape was his go to tool. He was a faithful member of Wayman AME Church for over 60 years, serving on the usher board. John was a member of W. Second St. Block Club.
He was passionate and loved his belief in God, his family, and serving his country.
Visitation will be from 11AM to 12 noon on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Wayman AME Church, 3317 Hoover Ave. Dayton where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon with Pastor Gerald A. Cooper officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until time of service.
Interment will be held at Dayton National Cemetery on a later date.
