THORN, John D. age 82 of Vandalia passed away on Wednesday, April1, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Summitville, Indiana son of the late Homer and Mearl (Porter) Thorn. He was preceded in death by his daughter Marilyn, son-in-law William Kinniard, grandson Tobias Allen and brother Homer Jr. He was a World War II veteran that served in the US Navy as a Radio Operator on the USS Shields from 1943 to 1946. He was an alumni of Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He had a long career as a Certified Purchasing Manager. He was an avid HAM radio operator, creator of cut-out coin jewelry and loyal fan of the UD Flyers and Cincinnatti Reds. Survived by his wife of 60 loving years, Juanita Thorn (Williams), daughters Linda (Richard) Nagel, Theresa Kinniard, Cindy (Jim) Senter of Georgia, Jill (Terry) Lowman; sons Phil (Jenny) Thorn, Steve (Valerie) Thorn; grandchildren Angela, Rick, David, Jamie, Shawn, Brianna, Nathan, Brandon, Carol, Michelle, Kelli, Jessica, Katie, Maddie, Stephen, Josh, Morgan, Joshua, Jera; great-grandchildren Tim and Marilyn; sister Judith (David) Lamper of Florida; sisters-in-law Gladys Hull of Iowa, Evelyn Williams and Joan Williams of Indiana and numerous other family and friends. John lived life full of love. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 6th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Moraine. Graveside Services will be at the Veteran's Administration Tuesday, Aptil 7th 10:00 a.m. with full military honors.
