John D. ("JD") Williamson
Age 83, born September 4, 1924 in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Died September 1, 2008 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
John is survived by his wife of the past 61 years, Susan G. Williamson; five children, Allan John (Nancy) Williamson, Janet Sue (Tom) Kovatch, David Paul (Terry) Williamson, Mark Steven (Mary) Williamson and John Edward (Christy) Williamson; 18 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sharon) Williamson, Keith (Britton) Williamson, Michael Williamson, Eric Williamson, Craig Williamson, Marcia Williamson, Marianne Williamson, Monica Williamson, Carolyn Williamson, Renee (Victor) Rotunno, Rhonda (Joseph) Cattaneo, Melissa (Chris) Cherne, Karen (Chris) McCallum, Ryan (Debbie) Box, Rosemary (Douglas) Warrick, Bonnie (Andrew) Littlejohn, Michelle (Josh) Holowicki & Jamie (Adam) Rapp; 14 great grandchildren, Sarah, Kendel, Evan, Morgan, Tyler, Kelsey, Ashliegh, Alexis, Jonathan, Brianna, Andrew, Rowan, Jonothan & Addison; one brother, Fred Williamson; and one sister, Rosemary Kaska.
John was raised and graduated high school in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. During WW II he served in the U. S. Army as a Paratrooper in the 13th Airborne Division. He graduated from Westminster College (Pa.) with a degree in Engineering in 1951. John worked as an engineer for the Honeywell Corporation from 1954 – 1972 in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Youngstown, Ohio and then with the Barber-Coleman Company from 1972 – 1976 in Columbus, Ohio. He owned and operated his own business ("Foamy Insulation") in Westerville, Ohio from 1976 – 1979. From 1979 – 1983 he served as an instructor at RETS Tech Center in Dayton, Ohio and from 1983 – 1994 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he also served as an energy management consultant. After retiring in 1994 he and Susan returned to Columbus, Ohio and in 2000 they relocated to The Villages, Florida.
During his lifetime John was an accomplished amateur athlete winning titles and earning accolades in ice hockey, golf, and bowling, among others, including winning the prestigious Hoinke Bowling Classic in 1983 with a then record score. John was an active member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake, Fla.
The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday (9/7) at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Dayton, Ohio. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at the corner of Forest & Homewood Avenues. Internment will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
