John S. Cox, age 73 of Huber Heights, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his home. He was born July 15, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late John and Patricia Cox.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Charlie Cox and Michael "Mickey" Cox; nephew, Boyltn Cox.
John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Cox; children, Randall "Randy" Dean (Marily Strauthers) Parsons, Lisa (Mark) Lewis, Denise (Jason) Shiflett; grandchildren, Amber, Josh and Jake Parsons and their mother, Jan Parsons, Taylor Martin, Mark, Heather and Stephen Lewis, Chloe and Morgan Shiflett; great grandchildren, Saylor and Layla, Blake, Bryce Jonathan and Hannah; siblings, DiAnn Daily, Kathy Ross, Randy Cox, Robin Raters and Chris Cox; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extend family and friends.
He was a 1966 graduate of Wayne High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served in the Vietnam War. He was a Private First Class and a team leader with Company B, 2nd Battalion, Twelfth Cavalry of the First Cavalry Division. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism, the Air Medal and 3 Bronze Star Medals. He flew 25 aerial missions over hostile territory in Vietnam.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Newcomer North Dayton Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road. A private graveside service will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
The State of Ohio is under a mandatory mask order and has required that face mask will be worn in all public places.
