John Douglas “JD” Copp, age 58, of Centerville, Ohio passed away on June 10, 2024.
John graduated from Centerville High School in 1984 then proudly served in the US Army from 1984 to 1988 as a Military Intelligence Specialist in Electronic Warfare Systems and a German Linguist. He received Top Secret/SCI security clearance and was decorated and honorably discharged. He also was a graduate and lifelong fan of The Ohio State University where he obtained his B.S. in Business Administration as well as Wright State University where he earned a M.S. in International Business Administration. John was an accomplished gardener which ultimately led him to design, secure a patent, and build wheelchair accessible hydroponic carts. His other passions were cooking, hiking, fishing, bicycling, disc golfing, and discussing politics.
John is survived by his loving parents, Phillip Jay and Lois Copp, his dear brother, Brian Copp, his beloved sister, Evie (Wes) Novak, nieces and nephews, Jessica Wiley (Spencer Johnson), Andrew (Morgan) Copp, Zachary (Sydney) Novak, Emma Novak, Claire Novak, and Tyler Copp, his great nieces & nephew, his very special friends, The Cassinari Family, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. John was preceded in death by his brother, Jayson Copp, his niece Alaina Copp, and his dear dogs Ichiban and Kuma.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, beginning at 5:00 pm followed by a service at 6:30 pm which will be officiated by Pastor Patrick Del’Aria at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 820 Miamisburg Centerville Rd, Dayton, OH 45459. A military honors and committal service will take place on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Dayton National Cemetery, Assembly Area B at 4400 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45428.
