John Vincent Collins, age 83, passed away Friday 7/24/2015 at The Wellington of Dayton. John was born August 21, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Pennington) Collins.
John retired from the optical business with 45 years of service, primarily with Bausch and Lomb, and Midwest Optical. John was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish in Dayton.
John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 61 years Charlene (Warner) Collins, brother Joseph P. (Nickey) Collins, sons Joseph M. (Nancy) Collins and John D. (Jennifer) Collins, and daughters Patricia (Roger) Overdorf and Lisa M. (Chris) Carty, and grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, Juliana, Quinn, Alyssa, Hunter, Kristen, John M. and Maddison.
John's hobbies included sports, and he especially enjoyed golf with his golfing buddies Jim, Bill, and Tom. John's humbleness and humor made him a very likable person and a pleasure to be around.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Wellington and Hospice of the Miami Valley for their kindness and devoted care during a difficult part of John's life. A special Thank You goes to Gem City RN Case Manager Tammy Lawson, who went above and beyond the call of duty to care for John and his wife Charlene.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2300 S. Smithville Road in Dayton. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 9:30-10:30 am. Father Satish Joseph, Celebrant.
Arrangements by Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. Donations may be made in John's memory to the Hospice of the Miami Valley.
