Carroll, John Patrick (Jack), 85, of Huber Heights, passed away at Friends Care Center, Yellow Springs, OH, Thursday, September 1, 2011. Jack was born September 18, 1925 to John and Elizabeth Carroll in Lansing, MI. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lansing in 1943 then joined the Navy, where he served until the end of WW II. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1949 followed by jobs at a pipeline company in Kansas City, MO and as a reporter for the Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City, OK. He then began his career as a computer specialist for the USAF, retiring in 1985 from WPAFB. He enjoyed reading, genealogy, short story writing, passionately following Notre Dame football and basketball, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife and best friend of over 60 years, Ann, and his children and their spouses, John and Gail Carroll, Maureen Brustkern, Margie and Pete Wehner, Rose Ann Carroll and Kevin Moran, and Tom and Sue Carroll. Also survived by grandchildren Max (Mel), Lea (Nathan), and Zeke (Ali) Brustkern, John and Caitlin Wehner, Carroll (Allen) Jackson, and great grandchildren Erika, Alexis and Cameron. His sister Rosemary Hausenbauer also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Patrick Francis Carroll, sister Veronica Snell, and daughter-in-law Louise Carroll. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Friends Care Community staff for the gentle loving care they provided for Jack in his last months of life. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church, 6185 Chambersburg Rd., Huber Heights, OH 45424, where Jack was a charter member, on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 5, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH, 45424.
