John Joseph Breitenstein, age 87 of Kettering, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Oak Creek Terrace. He was born August 2, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Odilo and Grace Breitenstein.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nancy L. Breitenstein; a son, John C. Breitenstein; a granddaughter, Stephanie A. Pruitt; a great grandchild, Michael Hurley and six siblings.
John is survived by his children, Kyle M. (Charles) Rieker, Jill T. (Ronnie) Smith, William P. (Heidi) Breitenstein, Ann L. Breitenstein, Mark E. Breitenstein and Lori S. (Christopher) Robinson; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren as well as many other extended family and friends.
John was a 1949 graduate of Chaminade High School, where he lettered in football. Later in life he attended courses to further his education in engineering. John was an experienced machine tool designer having been employed by many reputable machine shops throughout his career including, NCR, General Motors and Martin Marietta. John retired in his early 60's and began to focus most of his time on woodworking, golf, family and the "Honey Do List". He was member of the NCR Golf Club, the Falcon Club, Dayton Gym Club and a charter-member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. John was a passionate advocate for the education of the disabled. He will always be remembered for being a dedicated provider with a diligent work ethic.
Family will receive guests from 10:00-11:00 am Monday, January 7, 2018 at St. Charles Borromeo, Dayton. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am also at the church. Calvary Cemetery, Kettering will serve as John's final resting place at a later date.
