Mr. John Elijah Brayfield, age 94, passed away in Xenia on Sunday June 11, 2017. He was born on April 16, 1923 in Carlisle Kentucky to James Thompson and Anna (Riddle) Brayfield.
Johnny, as he was known to family, attended school in Adams county, Ohio and graduated high school in 1941. In 1943 he joined the Army Air Force and served honorably in World War Two. He married Betty Jean Esterly on August 11, 1945 and together they had two sons. John and Betty enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. John retired from Delco Products in Dayton many years ago and moved to Florida with Betty before returning to Ohio 2 years ago. John was a long time member of Maiden Lane Church of God in Springfield and Eustis Church of God in Florida, teaching Sunday School and signing in the choir.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 year, Betty; sons, Brad (Betty) and Greg (Josie); grandsons, Zachary (Kellie) and Drew (Christa) Brayfield; step-grandson, Ronald (Marianna) Docimo; step-granddaughter, Stacey (Jim) Lawson; great grandchildren, Tristin, Drew, Cora, and twins, Maggie and Shawn; siblings, Gladys Brayfield Beam and Maxine Brayfield Merz.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 6:30pm at Huber Heights Church of God, 6900 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights. The family will greet friends at the church at 5:30pm until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the church or veterans charity of your choice.
