John Arney

John Ray Arney passed on December 14, 2015. Son of the late John Dewey Arney and Celia Franklin Arney, he was born on June 15, 1932 in Morehead, Kentucky. Survived by niece Donna Marie Blackmon and great nephew Patrick Donald Blackmon. He was preceded in death by sisters Grace Marie Arney, Vivian June Arney and brother Donald Jackson Arney. John (J.R.) grew up in Dayton, Ohio. After being discharged from the Air Force in 1955 he served on the Dayton Police Dept. alongside his late brother Donald (D.J.) Arney. Upon retirement he worked for Melson Security at the Dayton Convention Center for 15 years. John was an avid Chinook Ultralight enthusiast. He started Arney's Eagle Ultralights and sold parts for the Amazing Eagle. John was known for his big smile, hearty laugh and friendly nature. John enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee, flying Ultralights and was a John Wayne enthusiast! He was a member of the Dayton F.O.P. and the Dayton Ultralights Club. A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. in Beavercreek on Monday, December 21st from 11-1pm. A procession will follow to the Dayton National Cemetery for a service and burial starting at 2pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dayton F.O.P. Foundation, Memorial Wall project for fallen officers. Pledges can be called in to 937-237-4275. You will receive a pamphlet with information regarding your gift.
