John Armstrong

Armstrong, John Jerry, age 70, of Xenia, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2010. Jerry was born in Bedford, Indiana, on January 2, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maude Armstrong of Bedford. Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn, and four children, and their families; John Armstrong (Gina) and children Jay and Lyndi; Amy Everett (Dan) and children Emily, Allison, William, and Amanda; Sarah Brads (Andy) and children Murrin, Drew, Clinton, Alan; Michael Armstrong, and by his sisters, Marian Armstrong and Sue Brown. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1958 and from the United States Naval Academy in 1962, receiving a commission in the US Air Force. From 1964 until 1967 he served as an engineer and later as the program manager charged with developing communications for the president of the United States. He received his doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1972. He served as a professor of physics at the US Air Force Academy from 1972 through 1976, where he directed the physics major and academy's graduate physics program with Ohio State University. Jerry retired from the Air Force in 1982, having reached the rank of lieutenant colonel. Beginning in 1983, Jerry served in the ministries of Dayton Christian Schools and Legacy Ministries International, retiring as President of the Legacy Ministries Foundation in October 2007. Jerry was a member of the Xenia, Ohio Rotary and served on the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce Board. He was a member of Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek, Ohio. Jerry's life verse was I Thessalonians 2:8 from which God gave him his life purpose in the mid-1970's – "to impart my life to people."
