John "A.J." Gaston, age 74 of Dayton, passed away June 28, 2012. He was born January 25, 1938 in Bruce, Mississippi to the late Aaron and Louise Gaston. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Zeddie Gaston.
John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, June Gaston; children: Deborah (Russell) Johnson, Kimberly (Melvin) Andrews, Kelly (Tami) Gaston, Daphne (Vannoy) Garrett, Jerome (Doris) Frierson, Sherman Frierson, Regina Frierson and Cornelius Crawford; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Howard (Agnes) Longstreet, James (Deborah) Gaston, Adell Booker, Ollie (Jim) Jennings, Clytee (Robert) Brown, Willa (Alonzo) Watford and Norma (Sam) Hill; and a host of other family members and friends.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Mound Lab after 25 years of service and was currently working at the Dayton Mall. John was an avid gardener, had a great sense of humor, but most of all, he loved his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm. Military honors by the United States Navy.
