Goodpaster, Johanna Martha age 94, of Kettering, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. She was born in Saalfeld, Germany on October 19, 1926 and was one of twelve to the late Kurt and Elise Schoeps (nee Langbein).
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Michael Hoctel; daughter, Lori Newman; and 9 brothers and sisters in Germany.
Johanna is survived by her beloved daughter, Kathleen "Taki" Goodpaster; sister, Jutta Kuehn; brother, Kurt Schoeps; "her third daughter", Gayl (Terry) Sampson; close friend, Patricia "Pat" Brewster; lifetime childhood friend, Truedchen Meier; many relatives in Germany and many loving friends.
Born and raised in Saalfeld, Germany. She was a school teacher in Germany until after WWII when she worked as a civilian translator for both American and British armies. Speaking fluent English, she was encouraged to immigrate to the United States to pursue a better life. In 1956, she and her daughter, Lori landed in Dayton, Ohio. She pursued her career as a paralegal for 20 years until retirement. Johanna was committed to helping others one person at a time. Her passion was to take care of her extended family, friends, and even strangers. Her selfless devotion to help others was inspiring and was her purpose driven life.
