Joe Hughes, 86, of Fairborn, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 29, 1927 in Blackey, KY
to the late John and Millie Hughes.
Joe was a veteran of the US Air Force where he served his country in both WWII and the Korean War as an aircraft gunner, along with many other distinguished duties.
Joe enjoyed his home away from home in his garage but he was most dedicated to his grandchildren who were the light of his life.
He retired from Hobart Manufacturing in 1987.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by all 13 of his siblings, most recently, Clyde Hughes, Shelby Hughes, Beulah Arm, Lula Johnson; grandson, Jason Back; son-in-law, Roger Back.
Joe is survived by his loving Wife of 63 years, Allene; children, Danny Hughes, Linda Back, Cheryl (Bruce) Lybrook, Patricia "PK" (Ervin) Kegley, Vicki (Mark) Decker, Michelle Wooten; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Visitation will be held from 9 -11 AM Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio, where funeral services will begin at 11 AM Wednesday with Pastor Mark Decker officiating.
Burial will take place in Byron Cemetery.
