Joanne Charlene Thurmond

Joanne C. Thurmond of Dayton, OH passed away on February 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family and lot of love. She was born in Middletown, OH to William and Mary Crawford on May 29, 1933. She grew up in Middletown, OH with six brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Middletown High School where she developed lifelong friendships and a passion for learning. Her childhood was an idyllic time in her life, which she recalled fondly and shared exciting memories with her children and grandchildren.

In December of 1952 she met another lifelong friend Herbert Thurmond of Statham, Georgia who would soon become her husband of 57 years. They would later relocate to Herbert's hometown Statham, Georgia and raised five beautiful children. Joanne retired from Russell Nursing Home in Winder, GA. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary; husband, Herbert; children, Emmalene, David, Jane, and Sue; grandson, Donald; her brothers, William, Roger, Daniel, Richard, and Gordon; and her sisters, Elnora and Arvelee.

She is survived by her daughter, MaryAnn Edwards (Dayton, OH); her son, Wayne Thurmond (Winder, GA); grandchildren, Terra Thurmond, Alan Michael Edwards, Anthony Riden (Alyssa) (Ogden, UT); great-grandchildren, Taryn, Indya, Tre, Michael, DJ, Anthony, Paris, Peyton, and Beau; one sister, Teresa Chea (Dayton, OH); one brother, Luther "Ted" Mosley (Athens, GA); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Rhema Lighthouse Christian, 3271 Glen Helen Rd, Dayton, OH 45406. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with burial taking place at Woodside Cemetery, Middletown, Ohio.
