Elizabeth Joan (Nee. Orr) Freiberger, age 90 of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2018. Joan was born in Jay County, IN to the late Alva Orr and Anna Orr-Ashcraft on February 7, 1928. She graduated from Portland High School. Joan married Jerome Freiberger on July 21, 1951. The two shared many happy years together.
Joan was an avid gardener and loved to spend time growing flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed canning and freezing the fruits of her labors. In her free time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing dominos and euchre with her friends and loved ones.
Joan was an active volunteer of Queen of Martyr's Church and was very involved in the Rosary Alter Society and other committees.
Above all, Joan was a proud, caring, loving, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her mother and father, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jerry Freiberger; step-father, Jesse Ashcraft; and sister, Lila "Jean" Ashley.
Joan leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters Julie (Bruce) Wolf, Janiece Collins, Jane (Russ) Anderson, and Judy (Brent) Nill; one son Jerome (Theresa) P. Freiberger Jr.; 14 grandchildren, Amanda (Billy), Erin, Erica, Jason (Gianna), Jonelle (Rodney), Justin, Jared (Stephanie), Nicholas (Amanda), Stephen, Elizabeth, Joshua, Adam, James (Lindsay) and Michael (Manda); step-granddaughter, Hillary (Joey); 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Weaver; sisters-in-law, Thelma Herzog and Mary Ashcraft; dear friends, Ida Knopp and Ruth Hirt; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 11am - 12pm at Newcomer North Chapel. Luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's memory to Hospice of Dayton.
