Rains, Joan C., age 77, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Joan was born May 12, 1936 in Dearborn, Michigan to the late Dave & Lillian Lassiter.
Joan retired from Good Samaritan Hospital with over 18 years of service and she was a former Prince George's County Police Officer. She was also a member of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church.
Joan is survived by her children and spouses: Dave (Cathy) Kraft, Lillian (Kenneth) Caudill, Ruth Anne Harvey & Lance (Traci) Shackelford; grandchildren: Zachary Alan Caudill, David Keith Tallman, Laney Alexandra Shackelford, Lance Shackelford II & Dillon James Shackelford; great grandchildren: Coltin & Makala Humble; special friends: Sandy & Tony Amoto and Tommy Jackson; and adopted daughter: Becky Justice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 2300 S. Smithville Road, Dayton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Animal Rescue Foundation in Amelia, Ohio in memory of Joan.
