James Hopper, age 69, of West Carrollton passed away on July 10, 2023. He was born in Harriman, Tennessee on February 21, 1954 to the late Richard Hopper Jr. and Ellamae Hadley. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his sister, Judith Hogan.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; sister, Janet (Neal) Bowser. "Uncle Jimmy" is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Jim loved spending time with his family, no better time than a picnic with a hamburger.
Jim was a brilliant physicist WSU '77, tenacious software engineer and pioneering computer scientist. He was proud of his nearly 40 year employment history with SAIC/Leidos. Jim authored countless early days' software. He was a respected member of APPLE DAYTON users group. Jim was an avid reader, especially science fiction. His interests included science fiction, scuba diving, parachuting, hiking, photography, music and staying current on Star Trek and ongoing world news. Jim will be dearly missed by his family and close friends.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Newcomer Kettering, 3940 Kettering Blvd.
