Jewel Ray Smith "JR" "Smitty", age 83 of Dayton, passed away September 30, 2017. He was born April 20, 1934 in Bevier, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents: Johnny Smith and Hester & Alvin Sheets; wife, Charlotte; daughter, Roxanne Hussey; and brother, Earl Smith.
Ray is survived by son, Phil Schneider; daughter, Tyra Siefker; son-in-law: Gerald Hussey; grandchildren: Neri and Nathan Schneider, Ray Hussey, Zach and Alec Siefker; great-grandchildren: Steven, Taylor and Cole; sister, Phyllis Koester; brother, Ronnie Sheets; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from General Motors after more than 30 years of service. Ray was an avid bowler and lover of music. He was a gentle, kind spirit who put his family's needs before his own.
Visitation will be held from 12:30-2:30 pm on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Bethel West Cemetery, State Route 202, Bethel Twp, OH. To send a special message to the family, please click on Share Memories.
