Jessie was born in Blackey, KY to Arthur Centers and Elizabeth Caudill. At the young age of 14, Jessie set out for Ohio to find work and a better life. He traveled (hitchhiked) back and forth from Ohio to Kentucky to see the love of his life Irene in between working hard in various construction positions. They married in 1957 and moved to Dayton, Ohio. They eventually settled in and raised their three daughters in Huber Heights. Jessie worked his way up and overcame many obstacles to start his own concrete business, Jessie Centers Cement Contractors. Jessie retired from his business in 2005 but stayed busy until he passed away. Jessie had an unparalleled work ethic as well an unparalleled heart for people. Having come from humble beginnings, he had an incredibly generous and selfless spirit and never hesitated to help anyone in need. The number of people he helped and the ways he helped others over the years are too many to count. Whether providing jobs to many people and teaching them the concrete/cement trade to opening his home to others, he was always willing to step up and provide a helping hand to anyone in anyway he possibly could.
Jessie loved Bluegrass music and attended Bluegrass festivals often. He enjoyed stock car racing and was a longtime NASCAR fan. (For years he could be seen sporting his favorite NASCAR jacket) He could be found sitting in his chair next to Irene in her chair enjoying their favorite soap operas and talking about their life together with family. They went to sleep every night holding hands.
Jessie had a significant lasting impact on everyone around him which will be felt for years and generations. Jessie will be missed and remembered with love and admiration by all who knew him.
