Jesse J. Hairston, 84, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Chesapeake, VA, passed away in his home, on July 15, 2014. He was born on December 2, 1929, in Gary, West Virginia to the late George and Nannie (Hairston) Hairston.
Jesse served his country in the Army National Guard. A former Coal Miner, he retired as a Long Shoreman from New York Ship Builders and was a deacon of his church, Evergreen AFCOG.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee (Killebrew) Hairston; son, Gary J. Woods; grandson, Desmin R. Stiger and a sister, Barbara M. Richardson.
Jesse is survived by his children, Jeffery J. Hairston, Benita S. Hairston; step-son, Rodney L. (Tami) Woods; siblings, George T. (Elizabeth) Hairston Jr, Anna Wells, Frances (Bobby) Matthews, John W.(Brenda) Hairston; grandchildren, Jeffrey A. (Kim) Hairston, Steven E. Stiger, Jr., JaJuan J. Hairston, Gary J. Woods, Jr., Jamia' Woods, Jasmine S. Hairston, Bernie Smith, April A. Stiger, Passion M. Green; 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Dawn M. (Darhyl) Ellis.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (4104 Needmore Road, Dayton) where funeral services will begin at 1 PM, Friday, July 25, 2014.
Burial 11 AM, Monday, July 28, 2014 in Meadow Brook Memorial Garden in Suffolk, VA.
