Jerry L. Neff

Jerry L. Neff was born in Miamisburg, Ohio on November 9, 1931 as the only child of Wilbur C. and Ethel M. (Rexroad) Neff.

He was married to Joyce Weisenberger on November 27, 1953, who preceded him in death due to cancer November 13, 1993. He graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1949, received a BS of Ed from Otterbein College in 1953, a Master's degree in 1955 and a Ph. D. in 1973, both from Miami University. His professional career included an instructor at the University of Dayton [1954-1958], educator at Miamisburg High School [1958-1966] where he was high school principal for three years, 18 years in the mathematics department at Kettering City Schools [1968-1986], taught night school at Miami and Wright State for about 20 years, an adjunct in math and education at the University of Dayton [1990-1999]. First chairman of Dayton-Montgomery County Public Education Fund, Project Gemma re: Mathematics. He is a member of the Chester A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame.

His wife Joyce committed to Christ in December, 1972. In July of 1973, he also received Christ as his Lord and Savior and also became a Bible believing Christian. He married Mary McCoy Menke in December of 1994. They volunteered to serve as missionary educators at Sun Valley Indian School in Holbrook, Arizona.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Neff coached softball and volleyball at Fairmont West and then volleyball at Kettering Fairmont. After retirement he coached at Wilmington College [1986-1989], and volunteered as a volleyball coach for Oakwood [2004-2007]. He served for 11 years on the Oakwood Board of Education and resigned to become part time initial director of the OCC.

He was the father of four children with his first wife, Joyce: Janis (John) Ault of Miamisburg, Randy (Kelly) Neff, Douglas (Nancy) Neff, and Julie (Nate) Thompson, all of Oakwood. He had 15 grandchildren: Sarah Ault (Pete) Seidel, Katherine Ault, Benjamin (Courtney) Ault, Mollie (Josh) Wagenknecht, Thomas Neff [who preceded him in death in 2011], Joseph Neff, Rachel Neff, Anna Neff, Markus Neff, Andrew Neff, Alex Neff, Kylie Neff, Emma Neff, Joel Thompson, Noah Thompson, and Molly Thompson and five great grandchildren: Beth, Leah, Anna, Joshua and Megan Katherine Seidel of Findlay, Ohio.

There will be a graveside service for family only.
