Jerry A. Lindner

November 17, 1940 — April 22, 2024

Jerome "Jerry" Lindner, age 83, of Washington Township, passed away on April 22, 2024 at his home with his loving wife of over 57 years by his side. Jerry was born on November 17, 1940 in Lorain, Ohio. Jerry loved his family and especially cherished his role as the best grandpa ever. Those who knew Jerry knew he loved fishing and being outdoors. He also loved puttering around in the yard, his woodworking shop, or his gun room. He was an avid gun enthusiast and collector as well as an excellent shot, spending many enjoyable hours at his beloved gun club.

Those who knew Jerry particularly well also knew that he was the epitome of the phrase "still waters run deep." Though he was typically quiet and reserved, he was a secret rebel, and if you could get him talking, you would soon learn some surprising stories from his younger years—like siphoning gas out of the tanks of swanky cars at the golf course, sneaking drinks of the wine from Communion as an altar boy, "borrowing" someone's car from the service station where he worked to go joyriding on the streets of Lorain, or being brought home to his parents by the sheriff.

Despite all of this, Jerry graduated from Clearview High School in 1958 and then earned an associate degree from Lorain County Community College. Jerry worked as an engineer for General Industries and, later, Ridge Tool (RIDGID), both in Elyria, Ohio. With his meticulous attention to detail and his innate ability to visualize and understand the mechanics of just about anything, he made a terrific engineer. He also carried this precision into his woodworking, gardening, and gun work. He had a creative side, too, and crafted many beautiful items of wood and even a few gorgeous pieces of pottery.

Jerry attended Morningstar Baptist Church in Washington Township and was active as an usher, groundskeeper, and all-around good guy.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father, John D. Lindner, and his mother, Mary H. Lindner (neé Hodovan). He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Lindner (neé Cummings); three children, Jeff Lindner, Mary Elizabeth Lindner-Moore, Christopher Lindner; three grandchildren, Kathleen (Jacob) Moore, Sarah (Zoe) Moore, Justin Lindner; sister, Johnna Lindner-Szep. Jerry is also survived by numerous family and friends, including his Italian daughter, Silvia Demma, and his Italian grandson, Paolo Lazzarini. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Morningstar Baptist Church's Youth Group in Jerry's name. https://www.morningstardayton.org/giving
