Jerry L. Adkins

June 12, 1943 — October 11, 2018

Jerry Lee Adkins, 75, died October 11, 2018 peacefully in his home in Dayton, Ohio.

He leaves his wife of 15 years, Sheryl Brown Adkins, his daughters Tammy McClellan, Trudy Adams, Patricia Adkins, and Donna Potter. He was survived by many grand children and great grand childen all of whom he loved dearly.

Born in Elkhorn City, Kentucky on June 12, 1943, the son of Elze Lee and Anna Rae Adkins, he lived and traveled throughout the US and had great love and respect for his parents.

In his early years, he was an engineer at heart, ham radio and photography enthusiast. He loved tinkering with motors and bicycles. As a child, he once begged his parent to let him buy a motorized bicycle called "The Whizzer" for $25 which was a lot back in the 50's. He then proceeded to take it apart and rebuild the electronic components on another bike he had improving the overall design.

In order to escape a career in coal mining, he headed to Michigan to join the automotive industry where he had a life long career with Ford Motor Company.

His love of computers began as soon as they were accessible to him and he taught himself how to use and program them. He began writing applications for Ford and was recognized by Ford for his brilliance and ingenuity. He went on to write mobile applications and games and continued teaching himself new programming skills until his death.

He had a passion for radio control airplanes and built and flew them in competition winning many trophies. He also designed and built components for them.

In retirement, he spent his days doing the things he loved such as writing and building things such as Morse Code instruction games, flight simulation games, robot builds and his beloved ham radio. He often joked he wanted to build a robot to mow his grass just to tease the neighbors. He wrote short stories about his family and life growing up. His software and stories are still available on Amazon.

Memorial services will be held in Michigan. He was a loved man and will be missed by his friends and family.
