Jerome Tillman

TILLMAN, JEROME SR.
Age 62, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at his residence following a long battle with metastasis colon cancer. He confessed Christ at an early age. Jerome earned his bachelor's degree from Central State University, in 1965. He was a four year starter on Central State's basketball team. He went on to receive his master's degree, in 1967, from Michigan State University. He also pursued and earned his PH.D in Curriculum and Instruction, from Michigan State University. He accomplished his goal in 1970 at the age of 27, making him one of the few and youngest African-Americans in the country to have earned a PH.D
Jerome is preceded in death by his father, Dempsey Tillman. Jerome is survived by his loving wife of 18 yrs, Florence R. Tillman; daughter, Jacqueline Rebecca Tillman; sons, Jerome Tillman Jr., Justin Andrew Tillman, and Preston Jermaine Lewellen; mother, Grace Rebecca Nelson of Saginaw, MI; sisters, Jacqueline Strothers (Guy Strothers), Glenda Smith, and Sue Bady, all of Saginaw, MI; brothers, Don Tillman (Hattie Tillman), James Nelson (Odie Nelson), and Gaylord Nelson (Fannie Nelson), all of Saginaw, MI; aunts, Willie May Merkerson of Saginaw, MI, Canary Mayo and Naomi Mason, of Chicago, IL. Jerome also leaves a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor, in Saginaw, Michigan at Mount Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church on 1114 North 6th Street on Saturday, April 15, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. Elder Abbie Robinson, of Forrest City Arkansas, will be the officiating minister.
The Tillman family ask in lieu of any local flower donations, that a donation be sent to Hospice of Dayton on behalf of Jerome Tillman Sr. and the Tillman Family. Arrangements in care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. Expressions of sympathy may be made to www.NewcomerFamily.com
