Jeffrey J. Swank, age 69 of Dayton, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024. He was born June 29, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio.
A good son to the late J.W. and Frances Swank and cousin to many, Jeffrey graduated from Stebbins High School in 1973. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1982. He then joined the U.S. Navy for the next 17 years where he became known as "Mr. Steady." Military men seem to receive a nickname for whatever applies. 4 years of "at sea" duty on the USS Constellation and the USS John F. Kennedy led him to 6 years of duty at the Navy Brig Naval Station San Diego and Consolidated Naval Station in Miramar San Diego. Those years were in security, shore patrol, and prisoner exchange and detention. In the years following his honorable discharge, he was in security and enforcement. Jeff furthered his commitment to his country by graduating from Sinclair Community College Peace Officer Training in 1997 and the Great Oaks Police Academy in 2016. Mr. Steady became a Pinkerton Man stationed in the General Motors plants. From 1996 to 2021, Jeff worked security with his last job at Social Security in Xenia, OH.
While serving his country and working in Dayton, Jeff became a Browns and Buckeyes fan. He and his mother were avid collectors of lighthouses and amassed quite the selection.
This celebrated survivor of Desert Storm took to the roads on his Harley with his many friends and comrades at VFW Post 657. Later he rode a stool to eat and see friends at his favorite diner, The Hasty Tasty.
Jeff is survived by numerous cousins. He especially enjoyed the youngest generation and had frequent play dates with him and his dog, Wayne.
Jeff's family would like to thank all that mourn the loss of this great son, cousin, and proud American veteran!
