Jean Somerville Davis, 91, of Beavercreek, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Liberty in Beavercreek. Jean was born April 12, 1923 in Springfield, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrit and Sara Darr Wert Stinchcomb, her first husband, Harry Hunter Somerville, daughter, Carolyn Sue Shingledecker and sister, Miriam Light.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Arthur "Pete" Davis; daughter, Helen I. Moorman; two step-daughters, Susan L. Feeser and Linda C. Odiorne; sister, Helen Wagner; and her step-brother, Harold Strain. She has eight grandchildren: Kimberly Dunn, Craig Moorman, Danielle Moorman, Phillip Sauvey, Cheryl Shingledecker, David Shingledecker, Benjamin Feeser, Katherine Feeser, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jean graduated from City Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and practiced for over 30 years. Her love of music was shown as an organist in her church early on. In her lifetime she wore many hats, had multiple talents and never let any grass grow under her feet. Learning the dulcimer in her 80's brought her back to her love of music - joining not only one but two dulcimer groups. She was a woman of immense faith --- known for her fortitude, strength and love of life.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew United Methodist Church 350 N. Fairfield Road, Dayton, Ohio 45430. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
