Jean Orahood

ORAHOOD, Jean, of Fairborn passed away Tuesday April 27, 2010 leaving behind her husband of 57 years, Harry Orahood; three children Debra (Kenneth) Gevedon, Gary (Priscilla) Orahood, and Paul Orahood; four grandchildren, Christine (Shawn) Ryan, Kevin Gevedon, Sarah Orahood, and Joshua Orahood; one great grandson Cole Harding; two nieces in England Corrine and Alison Hains. Jean is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Tweed and Ellen Francis Tweed; two sisters Baby Maureen and Joan Conway, and her husband Patrick Conway.

Jean was born May 31, 1931. As a child, in London, she carried a gas mask to school and shopping with her mother. She and her sister, Joan, spent many nights in a bomb shelter her dad built in the backyard. As the bombing in London increased both Jean and Joan were evacuated twice, once to the west coast and later to Manchester. In Manchester they were cared for by their father, assigned there as a wartime reserve policeman, while their mother stayed home and ran the news agent business for her dad.

Jean met Harry when he was stationed in London with the U.S. Air Force. She and the children accompanied Harry to England twice as well as the Philippines. They traveled to Hong Kong, Belgium, France, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. They were also stationed in Texas, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Washington DC, before finally settling down in Fairborn Ohio.

After Harry retired from the Air Force they purchased a trailer and went all over the United States along with friends seeing the Grand Canyon, both coasts, and the Canadian border.

She attended church at Chapel One on base, and was confirmed there, as she found peace and comfort within the chapel community.

Jean will be greatly missed by family and friends, including Jill and Roger Roop, of Beavercreek, Dorothy Robeson, of Indiana, friends from the British Wives Club, and her beloved dog, Andy.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton and Trinity Community for all their care and support during this time.
