Jean Elam, age 78, of Dayton, passed away June 15, 2023. She was born May 28, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Robert and Alice Seidenschmidt. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Elam; sister and brother-in-law: Carol Ann and Larry Ray Jackson; sister-in-law, Cynthia Dennis; and brother-in-law, Marvin Elam.
Jean is survived by her sons: Scott Elam and Jonathan Elam; sister, Irene Mae Burgess; brothers-in-law: Steven Elam (Susan) and Darrell Elam (Brandy); sister-in-law, Connie Huselton (Rex); nieces and nephews: Annette Garcia, Craig Burgess, Karrie Szuch (Daniel) and Keith Jackson; great-nieces and great-nephews: Kora and Jackson Szuch, Jenna and Nick Burgess; many other relatives and friends.
Jean worked for General Motors and retired after more than 30 years of service. She taught dog obedience at Gem City Dog Training. Jean was an avid reader and was an animal lover, especially dogs and horses. Jean spent many years showing horses and was a member of 4-H. She enjoyed gardening and going to car shows.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made in Jean's memory to the Dayton Animal Resource Center, Webster Street, Dayton, OH.
