Beloved husband and father Jasper "Jay" Lycans Jr, departed this earthly plane on Friday, November 3rd, after battling a lengthy illness. Jay is survived by his cherished wife of 51 years, Jitsaman, sons Andrew and Terry (Debi), and beloved grandchildren Melia, Ryland, Piper, and Jameson. Also surviving are sisters Carol Morris and Eileen Sutton (Roger), brothers Roger Lycans (Cheri) and Larry Lycans, and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by mother Ersie Lycans, father Jasper Lycans Sr., sister Karen Rhea, brother Jerry Lycans, brother-in-law Charles Morris, and daughter-in-law Holly Snapp-Lycans.
Jay was born in Dehue, WV on June 25th, 1944 and graduated from Logan High School. He attended Wright State University and retired after lengthy careers in the U.S. Army (Master Sergeant) and the U.S. Postal Service. Jay was a Vietnam War Veteran and served extensively overseas, including Thailand and Germany. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and many other decorations and awards in his military career.
In retirement, Jay doted on his grandchildren and became the man many people turned to for advice or help with anything, at any time. On many occasions, someone would request his assistance, only to find that he had already taken care of the task at hand.
Hobbies included fishing, hunting, auto racing (especially NASCAR), and keeping up with family, friends, and old army buddies. Jay was an honorable and selfless man and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 8th at 4 PM at Newcomer South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service at 3 PM. Internment and military ceremony will take place at Dayton National Cemetery on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 2 PM.
