Janet Elaine Grothjan

Age 76, of Dayton, Ohio died Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Hospice of Dayton. Janet was born on September 20, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio to Helen Dobran Mikitaw and Frank S. Mikitaw. She attended High school in Youngstown, OH and graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in speech pathology. Janet was a speech therapist for 30 years in the Miamisburg, Centerville, and Mad River school districts. She also partnered with her husband Thomas F. Grothjan, in their family business "Tom's Mulch" from 1983 until 1999. She was loving and active in serving her family, church, and community as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her father Frank; her mother Helen; husband of 37 years, Tom and her sister Judy Yerian. She is survived by her daughter Stacey and her husband Jon and their daughters Rebecca (Nick), Hannah, Sarah, and Elizabeth; her son Jason and his wife Sarah and their daughter Eliza; brother Frank of Ohio; sister Joyce of Florida and many, many close family and friends.

Janet possessed a strong and active faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was highly influential in the spiritual legacy of her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. Janet was a constant witness and a faithful participant and leader in countless bible studies. She also participated in several mission trips. She was extremely generous and gave to many individuals and organizations who claimed the name and demonstrated the love of Jesus. She will be missed, loved, and always remembered. We honor her life and the mark she made for the kingdom and glory of God. We love you "Mimi," and we look forward to the day when we will see you again in the presence of Jesus.

Visitation with family and friends will be Friday, November 30, 2018 beginning at 11:30 am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. Beavercreek, OH 45432. An escorted procession to the Dayton National Cemetery will begin at 1:00 pm where she will be laid to rest at 1:45 pm.

Her "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 12:00 pm at Christ's Church, 3370 Upper Bellbrook Rd., Bellbrook, OH 45305. Pastors Paul Santoro and Jon Bunn will be officiating. There will be a fellowship lunch with family and friends immediately following the service in the Christ's Church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Dayton Right to Life Society.
