Jane Lou Hovis Willoughby Booton, 95, died on January 25, 2021 in Sour Lake, Texas after a brief illness. She moved to her daughter and son-in-law's home in June, 2020 after 64 years living in the Dayton, Ohio area.
She was born on March 4, 1925 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Helen (Tannehill) and Logan Hovis Sr. She attended Ohio University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, from 1942 until 1944 and where she met her first husband, Harry E. Willoughby Sr. They married in 1944 and raised four children. After his death in 1965, she returned to complete her degree at the University of Dayton, graduating in 1967 at the age of 42. She received her Masters in music education from the University of Miami in 1972. She taught music to grade school students in the Dayton Public School System for three years and in the Huber Heights school system for 16 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a cub scout and girl scout leader for her children's troops and sang with the Daytona Chorale, a volunteer choir that performed across Dayton. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota from 1966 through present day and served as treasurer for ten years.
In 1975 she married Glen E. Booton. They were founding members of Yellow Springs Christian Center and later joined Lifepointe Church in Kettering. Through the church's missions, Jane and Glen helped fund the building of five churches in remote areas of India. Jane remained a member of the church even after her move to Texas.
She was predeceased by Glen, who passed away in 2012; her eldest son, Harry E. Willoughby Jr.; her parents; siblings (Nancy Gawthrop and Logan Hovis Jr.); and her grandson, Bruce Willoughby.
She is survived by her daughter Janie (Clyde) Perry, with whom she had resided since June; sons Norman of Huber Heights and Geoffrey (Elizabeth) of Eldorado; her step-daughter Pamela (Tom) Oakley of Dayton; and daughter-in-law Nieda Throne of Evans, Ga.; her 18 grandchildren, Terie Strock, Brian (Christina) Willoughby, Brent and Danny Willoughby, David (Hollee) Raynor, Laura (J. Luther) Willoughby Perry, Matthew (Wendy) Willoughby, Erica (Cesar) Monroy; Amelia (Scott) Rader, Zachariah (Erin) Perry, Corinne Perry, Seth (Meredith) Perry, Caleb, Cary and Logan Perry, Joshua (Ashley) Pike, Suzanne (Tison) Lynch, and Ben Oakley; 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 with the funeral to follow at 11 am, at Newcomer Funeral Home's Kettering chapel. Graveside internment will follow. COVID-19 guidelines, including wearing a mask and social distancing, will be strictly enforced. The service will be streamed online beginning at 11 am on Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/97949808108
