James "Jim" Witherspoon peacefully transitioned surrounded by compassionate caregivers at River Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Miamisburg, Ohio, which had been his supportive home for the past two years.

Born in Dayton, Ohio to Betty Tobias and Frank Witherspoon, Jim lived a life marked by service, creativity, and deep connections. He attended Kiser high school, and it was here that his passion for dancing and Art began. He then honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam era as a Communications specialist, embodying the spirit of dedication and patriotism.

Jim's professional journey included a meaningful career at General Motors' paint division, where he was affectionately known as the "Dancin' Man" - a nickname that reflected his vibrant personality and love of music. His colleagues became more than coworkers; they were a cherished extended family.

A talented artist with a passion for drawing political cartoons, Jim found joy in creative expression during his retirement years. He also loved gardening, creating beautiful outdoor spaces that brought him peace and satisfaction.

One of Jim's greatest loves was his wife of 34 years, Jeannette. Their connection was symbolized by their shared love of dancing, where they would captivate onlookers with their graceful movements until life's final moments. Whether it was a classic slow dance or a lively 50s or 60s tune, they shared a connection that went beyond mere steps.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Witherspoon, and brother-in-law Gary Sams. Jim is survived by his wife Jeannette; his stepchildren Kristi (Doug) Eickman and Jay (Mindy) Shores; grandchildren Kira Eickman, Tyler Shores, and Alyssa Shores; siblings Judy Sams, John (Susan) Witherspoon, and JoAnne (Mark) Hartings; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Jim will remember him as a gentle, kind soul who treasured family, friendships, and community. His love for Western movies, particularly his admiration for John Wayne, and his warm storytelling about childhood memories of his siblings in his neighborhood (Parkside), painted a picture of a man who appreciated life's simple yet profound moments.

A private memorial service honoring Jim's life, complete with military honors, will be held at Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Affinity Hospice in Dayton or the Alzheimer's Association to support ongoing research and care.

Jim's legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
