James D. Wentz, age 87 of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Siena Woods Care Center. He was born November 29, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Ray and Mildred (O' Haver) Wence.
Jim served in the US Navy, where he learned the trade of electrician. After leaving the service, he began working for AMF Bowling for 25 years. He then founded Hilltop Bowling Inc. providing parts and service for bowling lanes, a job he loved and excelled at well into his 80's. He was an avid reader and even owned and operated a bookstore with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruby (Baker) Wentz; son, Jeff Wentz; brother, Garland; sisters, Eunice, Norma and JoAnn.
Jim is survived by his sons, Mark (Alma) Wentz, Robert (Reina) Wentz, James M. Wentz, Gregory Wentz, Todd (Christopher) Wentz; daughter, Laura Parsons; beloved daughter-in-law, Debbie Wentz; beloved and devoted sister, Patricia Dawicke; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Also many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
His family wishes to thank the staff of the Dayton VA and Sienna Woods Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a Veterans Charity of Choice.
Visitation will be Monday, August 12, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a service at 2:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432).
