James Edward Watkins, fondly referred to as "Jim the TV Man", passed away peacefully, on April 29, 2018. James was born in Earling, West Virginia to the late Evva Banks and Harold Watkins. After completing his education, James enlisted in the United States Navy. He honorably and faithfully served his country for 4 years during the Korean War. James married the love of his life, Roberta Hall in 1959. The two have shared 60 years together.
Jim went on to become an electrical engineer for FAA. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing TVs and other electronics. Jim was known to always love a good bargain and enjoyed finding hidden treasures at thrift stores. Jim was a member and Elder of North Dayton Bible Students. Jim and Roberta enjoyed traveling together. He loved to spend time with his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Jim was a loving, caring, and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his step-father, Eugene Banks.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife of 60 years, Roberta Watkins; children, Donald (Linda) Watkins, Joyce Watkins, and Alan Watkins; grandchildren, Anthony, Maya, DJ, Guy, Emma, Ada, and Chase; great-grandchild, Lillian; cousin, Beverly Heard; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 12:30pm at Newcomer-North Chapel. Visitation to be held for one hour prior (11:30am - 12:30pm). Burial and Naval Honors to follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
