In Memoriam: James Edward Turpin (1943-2024)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Turpin at the age of 80, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in Kettering. Born on November 16, 1943, in Irvine, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late James and Wanda Turpin.
A proud graduate of Stivers High School and an alumnus of Wright State University, James carved a remarkable path as the founder and proprietor of Turpin Construction, dedicating over 25 years to his craft. His legacy extends beyond the business realm, reflecting a deep passion for horse racing, evident in his ownership of racehorses and membership in the United States Trotting Association.
James' fervor for sports was unwavering, with a special place in his heart for the Kentucky Wildcats and Cleveland Browns. Beyond the spectator's realm, he actively contributed to youth sports, coaching football and basketball for the YMCA and Alter Sports from 2008 to 2015. Known affectionately as "Coach Poppy" during his tenure with Alter Football, James left an indelible mark on young athletes.
Family was paramount to James, and his happiest moments were spent in their company. Fond memories of vacations to Daytona, Florida, attest to the joy he found in these cherished moments. James's warm presence and genuine spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In honor of James Edward Turpin, we remember a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Sisters, Rebecca (Dennis) Miller, Darlene Turpin and Cecilia Turpin , Nephew; Robby Grunwald.
James is survived by his wife Marian R. Turpin; Sons, Mark J. (Stacey) Turpin, Shaan E. (Renee) Turpin Sr., Rodney E. (Teresa) Turpin; Granddaughters, Kylie (Greg) Tiu, Akea Hardin; Grandsons, Mark (Aubrianna ) Turpin, Andrew Turpin, Shaan Turpin, Jr., Brandon (Bianca) Turpin, Cameron (Kellie) Turpin; Great-Grandchildren, Jack, Henry, Karmen, Rylann, Lakin, Teagan, Quinn, Laylani, and Elliana; Brother Dewaine (Jan) Turpin; Sister, Charlene (Bill) Grunwald; Neice; Tamara "Tammy" (George) Hunter. Nephews; James Miller, Jason Miller, Billy Grunwald, Brian Turpin, and by numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be held January 18, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - Centerville (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459).
