James W. Taylor, Jr., age 91, of Spring Valley, Ohio. James was born November 21, 1930, in Jellico (Whitley County), Kentucky and passed away in the early morning hours of July 7, 2022, at Hospice of Dayton.
Jim earned many degrees in Education and had a lifelong passion for learning. He and his beloved wife, Hattie, moved to Ohio seeking better teaching opportunities. They settled in the Beavercreek area and taught at Shaw (Hattie) and Valley (Jim) Elementary Schools for the remainder of their careers. Daughter, Mary Jean, was born in 1962, and later they built their family home in the Spring Valley area.
Jim attended Spring Valley United Methodist Church for many years, as well as Fairhaven Church in Centerville. A few of his heroes were Douglas McArthur, John Wayne, and Billy Graham. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, raising beef cattle & New Zealand rabbits, gospel & bluegrass music, westerns, history, math, and science.
James was preceded in death by wife, Hattie Marie (Northcutt) Taylor; parents, James w. and Virgie L. Taylor; siblings, Clara, Claibourne, Clora, Charles, and Virgie. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jean (Taylor) Patty; close family friend, Virginia ("Ginny") Himes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
