SWEET, James Ryland, of Beavercreek, born in Fonde, KY, November 2, 1918 and passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the age of 96.
His parents, David Henry and Cordia Irene (Murray) Sweet, preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Mildred (Thomas) Sweet (d. May 21, 2009); sisters, Alberta (Elmer) Giles, Lucille Speaks, Helen (Hubert) Huddleston, Lorabell (H. M.) Huddleston, Omalee (Courtney) Brown, and Ruth (Hugh) Parrott; brothers, Earl, Alfred (Winifred), Charles (Loretta), and Robert (Loretta); daughter, Barbara (John) Fenter, and granddaughter, Susan Fenter.
Dad is survived by one sister, Charlotte (John) Henderson; sons, James Jr. (Shirley) and Carl Dennis (Polly); daughters, Betty (Clyde Jr.) Hill, and Ellen Yearick; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Fred (Mary) Thomas, as well as numerous other family members.
Dad was a member of the East Dayton Baptist Church. Dad began working for the Clearfork Coal Company at Fonde, KY in 1933. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. In 1959 he moved his family to Dayton, OH, where he worked until retirement in 1981.
Dad loved the outdoors, was a long time hunter/fisherman, enjoyed playing golf, hunting golf balls, as well as socializing and entertaining friends and family. Dad faithfully cared for Mom during her years of declining health. Dad lived at Trinity Community, Beavercreek.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the many staff members that cared for and loved our Dad, and offered support and kindness to us.
Family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where funeral services will follow at 1:30 pm. Burial will take place at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia.
